NVQ Events (Temporary Structures)
Like most qualifications, NVQs measure the knowledge and skills that someone possesses. What makes NVQs different however, is that they measure whether or not an individual can apply their knowledge and skills in the world of work by carrying out assessments in the workplace during "real work" situations. So NVQs tell you not only whether an individual knows how to do the job, but whether they can actually do the job for real.
NVQs are about competence at work. The NVQ qualification looks at how you carry out your job; how you ensure that you have all the tools and equipment that you need to carry out your job; how you anticipate what could go wrong and do whatever you can to prevent it happening. Also when things do go wrong, which they inevitably will, NVQs examine how you go about putting things right as quickly as possible. Finally, NVQs examine your ability to do all these things in a real workplace, with real customers and real colleagues.
What’s so good about the Event (Temporary Structures) NVQ?
The Events NVQ has been developed for the industry by the industry. It is the industry, trade associations, companies and individuals that have decided on the content and the relevance of the qualifications for the Events industry.
The Temporary Structures qualification is only available in the UK and is split into three separate qualifications:
Level 2 is for site crew
Level 3 is for site foremen or others involved in positioning, erecting, inspecting and signing off temporary structures
Level 4 is for junior managers and sales staff.
Costs are detailed on the application form. For further details about what is involved at each level, please contact the MUTA Secretariat who will be pleased to help.
How do I get a qualification?
The Performance Textiles Association is the first assessment centre for the Events (Temporary Structures) awards and our assessors will carry out an assessment of your competence. You will be required to put together a portfolio of evidence.
-
A typical portfolio will contain:
- Personal statements – these are provided by you and show what you have done at work
- Witness testimonies – these are provided by a manger or supervisor and is about how you have performed
- Copies of documents you may have produced at work
- Your written or oral answers to questions about your work that have been set by your assessor.
- Records of observation – this is carried out by your assessor.
All of this documentation will be contained in your Evidence Pack. To ensure that all candidates are treated equally, your assessor will be overseen by an internal verifier who, in turn is overseen by City and Guilds.
Candidates who gain an Events (Temporary Structures) NVQ will prove they are competent to the standards the industry expects. This NVQ will become recognised as the industry benchmark for good practice.
